Reading goal calculator

How many pages a day do you need?

Tell it how many books you want to read this year, or when you want to finish the one in your hands. It turns that into pages and minutes a day, starting today.

0pages a day

How the calculator works

For a yearly goal it multiplies your books by their average length and spreads those pages over the days left until 31 December, today included. To finish one book, it takes the pages you have left and spreads them over the days until your date.

It always rounds up, because a goal you can meet beats one you keep missing by a page. Minutes are an estimate: most people read a page of a paperback in one to two minutes, so change that number to match you.

Pages a day for a whole year

If you start on 1 January and your books average 300 pages, this is what each goal asks of you.

Minutes assume 1.5 minutes a page. Starting later in the year raises the daily number, which is what the calculator above is for.

Questions about reading goals

How many pages a day to read 52 books a year?

With books of about 300 pages, 52 books is 15,600 pages, or 43 pages a day across a full year. At a minute and a half per page, that is a little over an hour a day.

How long does it take to read a 300-page book?

Most readers need between five and ten hours, depending on the book and how fast they read. At 30 pages a day it takes ten days.

Do audiobooks count toward my goal?

They do in BookWorm. Listening is tracked in hours and minutes, and your daily goal counts reading and listening together.

What if I fall behind?

Run the calculator again from today. The new number already includes the days you missed, and it is usually smaller than it feels.
